Origin and epidemiology
- Congenital
- Female > Male
- Poodle, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Rottweiler, etc.
It is a highly contagious haemorrhagic gastroenteritis, with systemic repercussions, caused by canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2), a naked virus that is highly resistant in the environment (several months).
From the wild virus CPV-2, 3 subtypes are now isolated: CPV 2a, 2b and 2c.
Contamination is carried out by the fecal-oral route.
Il s’agit d’une déformation de la portion cartilagineuse des côtes et du sternum à l’origine d’un rétrécissement dorsoventral du thorax.
Cette affection peut rester totalement asymptomatique mais est parfois associée à des dysfonctionnements respiratoires et/ou cardiovasculaires sévères.
Les races canines brachycéphales et les chats de race Burmese sont prédisposés.
